Today I finally wrote the new prologue to Cry, Wolf for the second edition that is scheduled for release in January. After the initial publication some years back now, I felt there needed to be more "werewolf" earlier in the book, instead of the wait till chapter VI. Though I never heard a complaint from my readers about the pacing of the novel, as the artist behind it, I felt it could use a little bit more of a mood setting beginning.
My first idea was a prologue that chronicled a scene of the action from the backstory in chapter VI, but as I sat down to write, I realized that would be too much for a prologue.
I settled on it today, though. It's set in 1851, and it sets up the story in a way that makes it clear from the get-go that this is a werewolf novel, while at the same time not effecting the established pacing of the story that follows. It doesn't give anything crucial away too soon. I like it. We'll see if my editor agrees. :)
